The regulation on penalties for municipal violations, in the part falling under the Ministry of Commerce, sets financial penalties for a range of commercial offences, Al Riyadh newspaper reported. These include refusing to sell, failing to issue invoices, breaching set prices, tampering with product information and electronic payment violations, with businesses given grace periods to correct their position depending on the offence.

Under the new penalties table, selling staple goods above prices fixed by a decision of the Minister of Commerce, or above prices set by the competent authority, carries a fine of up to SR100,000 and no less than SR5,000.

The fine is calculated on the gap between the fixed price and the selling price, and applies to each item in breach.
