Worshippers heading to the Grand Mosque in Makkah can see how crowded the Mataf (Tawaf area) and the Mas'a (Sa'i area) are before they leave, thanks to digital services offering a live view, instant updates and indicators that point to quieter times.
An interactive map of the Two Holy Mosques helps visitors find landmarks, facilities and the routes to them inside the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah. It lists around 950 points of interest, from the Holy Kaaba, Maqam Ibrahim and Safa and Marwa to Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah, the Prophet's Chamber, the mihrabs and the Prophet's pulpit.
Users can choose from more than 100,000 possible routes sorted into over 17 categories, and scan more than 650 QR codes for quick information on facilities and landmarks.
The map also runs on more than six interactive screens on site, where visitors can view locations and routes directly. It highlights landmarks and paths suited to persons with disabilities and includes tools to support accessibility.
The services are part of efforts by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque to expand smart services, use modern technology to ease access to information and facilities, and raise visitor satisfaction.
