Airports in western and southwestern Saudi Arabia are facing disruption amid rising military tension in the Middle East, South Korea's embassy in Riyadh said in an advisory covering the area served by its consulate general in Jeddah. Travellers should recheck with their airline or with the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA, +966-9200-11233) that their airport and flight are operating before setting off.
According to the advisory, some routes from Jeddah airport have been cancelled and take-offs and landings are often delayed. Abha airport is closed from 18:00 until 06:00 the next morning and runs normally in the daytime, but the Abha area is frequently targeted by the terrorist Houthi group, so operations may be disrupted without warning. Jazan airport is completely shut, and the Jazan area is also frequently attacked.
Seoul has a level-3 travel alert (departure recommended) in force for all of Saudi Arabia: Korean nationals are advised to leave unless their business is essential, and to cancel or postpone planned trips.
