Surgeons at King Salman Medical City in Madinah, part of the Madinah Health Cluster, have carried out a specialised endoscopic spinal operation on a woman in her thirties, as the hospital expands its use of modern minimally invasive techniques.

In endoscopic surgery, a camera and fine instruments are passed through small incisions to reach the affected area, limiting damage to surrounding tissue and muscle compared with conventional open surgery.

According to the medical city, the technique may reduce post-operative pain and blood loss, shorten hospital stays and help patients move again and return to daily activities sooner, depending on the case and the medical team's assessment. The operation was successful with no complications, and the patient's symptoms improved noticeably afterwards.

The procedure is part of the medical city's work to develop spinal surgery services, make wider use of modern surgical techniques and invest in training specialised health professionals.
