Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary-General Jasem Mohammed Albudaiwi has praised the position taken by members of the UN Security Council in their presidential statement on the attacks carried out by the terrorist Houthi group against Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Albudaiwi said the council's condemnation of the attacks was a clear international message rejecting the continued targeting of the Kingdom and its national assets, as well as threats to maritime safety and international trade routes.
The statement matters, he added, because it underlines the international community's responsibility to stop these violations and to prevent the militia from continuing to obtain the weapons and support that fuel its attacks. He described full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) as an international commitment that must be honoured in order to end practices that threaten regional security and stability.
The secretary-general stressed that the GCC regards Saudi Arabia's security as a fundamental pillar of the joint Gulf security system, and that member states stand by the Kingdom in a unified and decisive position, backing every measure it takes to defend its sovereignty, safeguard its security and protect its citizens and the residents on its soil.
