A further 2,021 people were caught trying to cross into the Kingdom, while 28 were stopped trying to leave it irregularly. Another 24 were held for transporting, sheltering, employing or covering up for violators.

The ministry classed the offence as a major crime requiring arrest and one that breaches honour and trust. It asked the public to report violations on 911 in the Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and Eastern regions, and on 999 or 996 elsewhere in the Kingdom.
