The Society for Culture and Arts in Jeddah hosted a cultural and artistic evening at its theatre, coinciding with the International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The event drew people with an interest in sport, culture, the arts and the media.
The programme looked at how Saudi performing arts and folk chants have found a place in sports stadiums, presenting them as a continuation of inherited cultural practices that express national identity and strengthen a sense of belonging.
It also reviewed the contribution of the Saudi national team supporters' association, which brings folk heritage into sporting events through chants, crowd performances and visual displays in the stands. Live examples of performing arts drawn from Saudi folk heritage were presented to an engaged audience.
The society's director, Mohammed Al Subaih, said the stands have become a space for cultural expression where performing arts meet chants and crowd displays. He added that the supporters' association reflects the richness of the national heritage and helps introduce Saudi folk arts at local and international sporting occasions.
