Horses wading through the shallow waters off Jeddah at sunset are the subject of a new series of photographs by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), taken as the sky turned orange and gold and the animals' movement sent ripples across an otherwise still sea.
The images show light and shadow playing across a calm coastline, with the sun close to the horizon spreading its colour over the water and the silhouettes of horses and riders standing out between the sky and its reflection.
The sea itself adds depth to the pictures: the horses' reflections stretch across the surface and break up with every ripple, while their steps leave short-lived trails on water tinted by the evening light, against a flat and quiet horizon.
The photographs also convey the openness of the setting, with warm tones in the sky repeated in the water below. In the agency's framing, the horses turn a sunset view into a living scene of Jeddah's coast, where each passing step reshapes the reflected light before the traces fade.
