The National Council for Occupational Safety and Health, in cooperation with the Federation of Saudi Chambers and under the sponsorship of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, has held a scientific symposium titled "Psychosocial Health in the Workplace: From Awareness to Application to Boost Productivity and Sustain Performance", SPA reported. The event coincided with the World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
The symposium was held in person at the headquarters of the Federation of Saudi Chambers and brought together specialist speakers, private-sector leaders, employers, workers and occupational safety and health professionals. Its aim was to help private-sector establishments adopt practical measures that support mental health at work, with positive effects on productivity and job stability.
Sessions covered the impact of mental health on organisational performance, the main psychological risks in the workplace, practical tools that companies can apply, the role of leadership in supporting mental health policies, and a preventive rather than curative approach. Participants stressed the need for companies to move from general awareness to practical application through sustainable policies that improve communication, support employees, reduce work-related stress and raise the quality of working life.
The council also presented its work to develop the occupational safety and health system in the Kingdom, including updating regulatory frameworks, launching training and awareness initiatives, and helping establishments and workers adopt preventive practices that reduce occupational risks.
Speakers highlighted partnership with the private sector as essential to building a culture of safety, describing it as a shared responsibility between regulators, establishments and workers in support of the Kingdom's goal of a safe, attractive and sustainable labour market. For employees in Saudi Arabia, including expatriate workers, such policies shape everyday conditions on the job.
