The General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (Monsha'at), in partnership with the General Entertainment Authority, hosted "Entertainment Community" at the SME Support Center in Riyadh, bringing small business owners and entrepreneurs in event management and experience design together with government officials, private sector representatives and support bodies to review developments and opportunities in the sector.
The informal, interactive gathering featured short panel sessions, open discussions and an accompanying exhibition covering market readiness, support programmes, growth and financing of events companies, health and safety standards, and the role of technology and e-payment solutions. Participants included the General Entertainment Authority, the Saudi Conventions and Exhibitions General Authority and the SME Bank, among others.
Monsha'at's General Manager of Events, Badr Al-Qadi, stressed the importance of understanding clients' goals, the nature of the event, its target audience, and the project's size and budget, saying that competing for event contracts requires creative, workable concepts backed by clear operational plans and technical and financial proposals.
Rayan Al-Hamid, Executive Director of Business Development at the SME Bank, outlined the financing challenges facing events firms, chiefly securing liquidity for operating costs and managing cash-flow gaps between expenses and contract payments. He urged early planning of financing needs, preparing financial statements before bidding, and using the bank's financing and guarantee solutions.
On safety, Taher Hakami, Director of Riyadh Business Events at the Saudi Conventions and Exhibitions General Authority, said organisers must obtain the required licences and approvals and submit licence applications at least seven days before an event, taking capacity and crowd management requirements into account. Thamer Al-Asiri, Director of the For-Profit Sector at the General Entertainment Authority, encouraged firms facing seasonal demand and staff retention challenges to focus on specialised, economically viable solutions and make use of data.
The event is part of Monsha'at's "SME Support Communities" initiative, which aims to strengthen entrepreneurship in promising sectors and connect small businesses with relevant public and private entities in support of Saudi Vision 2030.
