Visitors to the Hira Cultural District in Makkah can now step into “The Caravan Market and Its Tales”, a heritage trail inspired by the world of Islamic caravans. The event, which mixes learning, entertainment and shopping, runs until the end of December 2026.
It sets out to show what caravans carried across the centuries — human values, knowledge and stories passed down the generations — through storytelling, interactive scenes and trading customs drawn from old markets.
A central stop is the “Storyteller's Majlis”, where historical tales and poetry are shared with the audience in a setting that recalls the Arab majlis and its role in passing on news and stories. Stalls built in the style of caravan markets let visitors try weighing goods, bartering and buying, and live scenes depict everyday market life and the dealings between merchants, travellers and craftspeople.
The organisers highlight values associated with Muslim societies, among them honesty, generosity, craftsmanship and cooperation, and the part markets and caravans played in building human and cultural ties. The experience is designed for visitors of all ages.
The Hira Cultural District lies near Mount Hira and offers exhibitions and interactive experiences on the history and standing of the site, as part of its programmes for people visiting Makkah.
