Artificial intelligence was at the heart of the 10th Standards Forum, which the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) closed at its headquarters on Wednesday, World Standards Day, marked each year on October 14.

Opening the forum, SASO Governor Dr. Saad Al-Kasabi said this year's theme, "Standards and Artificial Intelligence: Empowering Applications and Building Trust", fits with the Kingdom naming 2026 the Year of Artificial Intelligence and with the fast pace of AI development and the opportunities it brings for innovation, efficiency and competitiveness.

He pointed to the support the leadership gives the standards and quality system, which he said strengthens Saudi Arabia's ability to keep up with technological change and its role in international forums.

The programme included a panel on how standards enable AI applications, along with papers on smart standards, regulating AI applications, autonomous vehicles, and the role of standards and legislation in enabling technology, with wide participation by experts and specialists.
