The Professional Literature Association staged two cultural events in the governorates of Khamis Mushait and Rijal Almaa on Monday to celebrate World Arabic Novel Day.

In Khamis Mushait, a lecture titled “Narrative Illusion and the Making of Danger: A Reading of a Naguib Mahfouz Novel” examined how narrative illusion shapes a novel and steers the reader's awareness, and how a writer can blur the line between reality and what a character imagines to be real, leaving readers constantly questioning what they see and what they are told. The talk went on to the psychological and philosophical sides of this device and the questions it raises about truth, justice, fate and personal responsibility for one's choices.

In Rijal Almaa, the association held a lecture titled “The Arabic Novel Between Storytelling and New Writing Techniques”, which looked at the main modern techniques in novel writing and how traditional storytelling differs from newer methods such as fragmented time, multiple voices and flashback. Speakers outlined stages in the development of the Arabic novel and the advanced level reached by the Saudi novel.

The Professional Literature Association serves as the professional reference body for Saudi writers. It is building an institutional framework for literary practice, classifying literary professions and setting their standards, and supports Saudi writers through specialised programmes and professional development tracks.
