The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has signed contracts worth around SR5.5 billion for 94 extra trains for the Riyadh Metro, a deal that will raise the network's passenger capacity by 60%, according to Saudi Gazette. The commission said on Tuesday that the fleet will grow from 183 to 277 trains, with phased deliveries starting in 2028.

The expansion is meant to keep pace with rising demand for public transport as the capital prepares to host Expo 2030 and the FIFA World Cup in 2034, and as new homes, shopping areas and entertainment venues continue to be developed across the city.
