Customs officers at the Al-Haditha crossing have foiled an attempt to bring 51,163 pills of the amphetamine drug known as Captagon into Saudi Arabia, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) said.
According to ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi, the pills were discovered spread across different parts of a truck after it arrived at the crossing and went through customs procedures, including inspection with security technology and sniffer dogs.
Al-Harbi said the authority is pressing ahead with tight controls on the Kingdom's imports and exports at all of its customs points to confront smugglers, as part of its strategic goal of protecting society. The work is carried out together with the Ministry of Interior and the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.
He called on the public to help fight smuggling by contacting the authority on the security reporting number 1910, by email at 1910@zatca.gov.sa, or on the international number 009661910. All reports are treated in strict confidence, and a cash reward is paid when the information proves accurate.
