The Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances Corporation (SPIMACO) and its wholly owned subsidiary SPIMACO BIO have signed an exclusive collaboration and licensing agreement with Genetix Biotherapeutics to develop, commercialize, manufacture and localize the gene therapies LYFGENIA™ and ZYNTEGLO™ in Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.

The agreement was signed at the Saudi Pavilion at BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, California, under the patronage of Vice Minister of Health for Planning and Development Abdulaziz Al-Ramaih. Vice Chairman and Managing Director Ahmed Al-Jedai signed for SPIMACO and Chief Executive Officer David Meek for Genetix Biotherapeutics.

Both are one-time gene therapies: LYFGENIA™ for sickle cell disease and ZYNTEGLO™ for transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia. The long-term partnership aims to speed patients' access to these advanced treatments, which address a significant unmet medical need, while supporting knowledge transfer and the localization of biotechnology.

SPIMACO and SPIMACO BIO will handle regulatory approvals, development and commercial marketing in Saudi Arabia, the GCC and the Middle East, and SPIMACO will use its manufacturing expertise to build advanced production capabilities inside the Kingdom.

The deal supports national ambitions for an advanced biotechnology sector under Saudi Vision 2030, the National Biotechnology Strategy and the National Industrial Strategy.
