Saudi Arabia's National Institute for Health Research has launched an initiative to support and fund disability research, in cooperation with the King Salman Center for Disability Research and the Disabled Children's Association. It was announced during the 7th International Conference on Disability and Rehabilitation.

The initiative aims to enable researchers to carry out health research on disability that addresses public health priorities in the Kingdom. It provides funding of up to SAR 90,000 per project, for a duration of up to 24 months, and gives researchers access to health services, with the goal of producing scientific evidence that supports clinical and rehabilitation practice and informs service design and policymaking.

It is open to Saudi and resident researchers affiliated with Saudi institutions, including universities, research centres, hospitals and non-profit research bodies. Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in a relevant field and have previous publications and research experience related to the initiative's area.

Applications open on 11 October 2026 and close on 31 December 2026 via the institute's website, snih.gov.sa.
