Respiratory infections are on the rise in Saudi Arabia as the virus season gets under way, though the increase remains within expected levels, the Ministry of Health said.

Intensive care admissions linked to respiratory infections have risen by around 30% over the past three weeks compared with the previous period, as several viruses become more active, according to the ministry.

It called on eligible groups to get the recommended vaccines, including seasonal influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) shots, by booking through the Sehhaty app, noting that vaccination lowers the risk of severe illness and complications.

The ministry also urged people to keep up prevention: wash hands, cover coughs and sneezes properly, ventilate indoor spaces, wear masks and limit contact with others when they have respiratory symptoms. It said it is working with health-sector bodies to promote prevention and health awareness.
