Saudi Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Eng. Waleed Elkhereiji took part on Wednesday in the sixth consultative meeting on strengthening the coordination of peace initiatives and efforts in Sudan, held in Geneva. The Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, also attended.

In his address, Elkhereiji said Saudi Arabia is working for a ceasefire, for Sudan's unity and for protecting its state institutions from collapse, building on the Jeddah Declaration of Commitment to Protect the Civilians of Sudan, signed on May 11, 2023, and the short-term ceasefire agreement. He voiced support for the Quintet initiative and other regional and international efforts towards a political settlement that preserves Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and for the Sudanese government's efforts to prepare a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue inside the country.

He said the Sudanese government and Sovereignty Council "cannot be equated with militias that have committed crimes against the brotherly Sudanese people", and reiterated the Kingdom's rejection of parallel entities and illegitimate measures outside official institutions.

Elkhereiji noted that the Kingdom had pledged $100 million to ease the suffering of the Sudanese people and launched a public campaign through the Sahem platform, and that total Saudi aid to Sudan has exceeded $3.2 billion. Saudi Arabia also provided an additional $145 million under the 2026 Sudan humanitarian response plan, announced at a coordination meeting in Berlin on April 15, 2026. He said the Kingdom will keep working to end the war and restore stability.
