Saudi Arabia has renewed its commitment to international cooperation and to the work of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in protecting refugees and their dignity. Speaking at the 77th session of the UNHCR Executive Committee in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, the Kingdom's permanent representative to the UN and international organisations there, called for burden-sharing, support for host countries and conditions for durable solutions.

He welcomed High Commissioner Barham Salih to his first Executive Committee meeting since taking office, praising his focus on improving refugees' conditions and his engagement with host countries. He said the Kingdom ranked second in the world and first among Arab countries as a donor of humanitarian and relief aid in 2025, and stressed its approach of linking humanitarian and development work, citing Saudi Fund for Development financing for sectors such as energy, health, transport and agriculture and KSrelief's shelter, food and medical aid worldwide.

On Yemen, the statement said continued escalation by "the terrorist Houthi militia" was worsening the humanitarian situation and driving more forced displacement at a time of rising needs and funding shortfalls, and stressed the priority of protecting civilians and unhindered aid access. The Kingdom condemned the repeated attacks targeting civilians and civilian facilities on its territory and affirmed its right, under international law, to protect its sovereignty, territory, citizens and residents.

On Gaza, the Kingdom voiced deep concern over the worsening humanitarian situation, rejected the displacement of the Palestinian people and backed efforts to end the suffering and deliver aid without restrictions, leading to a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.

It also expressed support for Syria's recovery and reconstruction and for the safe, dignified and voluntary return of Syrian refugees, praising KSrelief's work with UNHCR to repair homes and shelter returning families ahead of the coming winter. On Sudan, it reiterated support for peace efforts and urged a stronger humanitarian response for civilians.
