Among the artifacts at the Exhibition of the Two Holy Mosques Architecture in Makkah are copper rings that were used during the Saudi era to fasten the kiswa, the covering of the Holy Kaaba, offering visitors a tangible link to the care devoted to the House of Allah.
The rings show some of the methods once used to secure the kiswa and let visitors look closely at the fine details of its upkeep. They also have documentary value as part of the historical collection connected with the Grand Mosque.
The exhibition houses artifacts, architectural pieces, inscriptions and historical materials that trace successive stages in the history of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, showing how their architecture, services and tools have evolved.
Small and simple in design, the rings nonetheless stand out: once a working tool in the service of the Grand Mosque, they are now a preserved piece of history that tells part of the place's story and of the care given to the Kaaba in the Saudi era.
