Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development today signed a new agreement with Kenya's Ministry of Labour and Social Protection governing the recruitment of Kenyan domestic workers to the Kingdom.
Dr. Abdullah Abuthnain, Vice Minister of Human Resources and Social Development for Labor, signed for the Kingdom, and Dr. Alfred Mutua, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, signed for his country.
The ceremony was hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah and Dr. Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Saudi-Kenyan Political Consultations Committee.
The agreement sets out mechanisms for effective, regulated recruitment of domestic workers from Kenya, protects the rights of both employers and workers, and governs the contractual relationship between them. It also aims to update and strengthen the framework for bilateral cooperation in this field.
