The Ministry of Sport has concluded the activities of its "You Are the Sports Project" campaign, which was launched to coincide with Saudi National Day and moved between several locations in Riyadh and Diriyah Governorate. The campaign set out to encourage people to take up sport and to present the individual as the foundation of the national sports project.
Its main hub was Samhan district in Diriyah, with further stations at the Misk City walkway and the Laysen Valley and U Walk complexes in Riyadh. Visitors could try a range of sports, discover their abilities and get advice from specialist coaches and mini sports clubs.
According to the ministry, the stations drew around 5,000 visitors and hosted 1,700 sports trials and activities, with 10 federations and sports bodies taking part under the supervision of 8 specialist coaches. Close to 2,000 men and women benefited from the consultations and trials on offer.
Federations on the ground included Sports for All, Sports Media, camel racing, basketball, tennis, hockey, archery, netball and boxing and kickboxing, along with a chess academy. Others, including the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, Team Saudi and the Leaders Development Institute, supported the campaign through media.
The campaign was run with the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, the Mohammed bin Salman Nonprofit City and the National Committee for Sports Investment of the Federation of Saudi Chambers, with private-sector backing from companies including Matarat Holding, Saudia and the Jahez app. The ministry said it forms part of its efforts to spread regular physical activity across society.
