Matchday eight of the Kings League Middle East and North Africa, played yesterday at Cool Arena in Boulevard City, Riyadh, produced 70 goals, a new record for the most goals scored in a single day. The previous record stood at 55.
Kuwaiti team FWZ secured a semi-final spot by finishing top of the league stage after a 10-8 win over Egypt's Turbo. It was FWZ's seventh win in eight matches and Turbo's fifth defeat of the season. Saudi side DR7 and Moroccan team Ultra Chmicha also qualified for the quarter-finals.
Defending champions DR7 edged fellow Saudi team Rising Peaks 9-8 in a Saudi derby despite missing key players called up to the Saudi national futsal team, led by Abdullah Al-Oqaili and Nawaf Arwan. Qatar's ABO FC beat Morocco's Bakhira FC 8-7, and Bakhira FC, with a sixth defeat, became the first team out of contention for the knockout rounds.
Saudi team RA2 came from behind to beat Jordan's 3BS 5-4 and will qualify for the quarter-finals if they beat ABO FC in the final round. Jordan's Red Zone closed the day with a 6-5 win over Ultra Chmicha, moving to four wins and four losses; victory over Rising Peaks in the last round would send them through.
The final round of the league stage on Friday, October 23, features FWZ against Ultra Chmicha, DR7 against 3BS, Rising Peaks against Red Zone, Turbo against Bakhira FC and ABO FC against RA2, with the four remaining quarter-final places at stake. The quarter-finals will be played on October 26, and the season ends with the Final Four on October 30.
