Jeddah Municipality has carried out a field exercise to test its readiness for the risks of rain and flash floods, with the participation of relevant government and private-sector bodies. Scenarios were staged at six locations across the governorate.
The drill involved activating the rain emergency plan, support centres and committees, in order to strengthen coordination between the participating bodies and speed up the handling of potential risks.
The scenarios simulated heavy-rain and flooding incidents in different parts of Jeddah to test the readiness of field teams, equipment and machinery, the effectiveness of intervention and response procedures and coordination between agencies, as well as damage assessment, sheltering and the activation of the related committees.
The exercise was led by the municipality's General Department of Emergencies and Crises, supported by its stormwater drainage, cleaning and operational services sectors, which deployed staff and vehicles in the field.
According to the municipality, the drill demonstrated its level of preparedness and response capability and improved coordination among the participants, helping to refine procedures for dealing with rain and flood risks and protect lives and property.
