The Gulf Health Council has warned about the dangers of e-cigarettes, according to Okaz newspaper, noting, on the basis of World Health Organization data, that young people who use them are around three times more likely to go on to smoke conventional cigarettes.

In a 2024 report, the WHO estimated that about 37 million people aged 13 to 15 worldwide use tobacco.

As part of its "Today Before Tomorrow" awareness campaign, the council has issued a guide meant to help young people in the Gulf say no to their first try of non-traditional smoking products, resist social pressure and make informed health choices. The guide stresses that these products are not safe and highlights how nicotine affects brain development.
