Arab electricity and energy ministers gathered in Riyadh today for the 16th session of the Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity, chaired by Saudi Arabia as the council's current president. Delegations from Arab countries took part, alongside representatives of the Arab League General Secretariat and relevant Arab organisations and federations.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the World Petroleum Congress, which the Kingdom is hosting as part of Riyadh Energy Week, running until Thursday, October 15, 2026.
Top of the agenda was progress on signing and ratifying the two agreements on the Arab Common Electricity Market, together with a pilot scheme to exchange power among the Arab Mashreq countries of Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
Ministers also looked at renewable energy and energy efficiency, Arab cooperation on clean hydrogen, an experience-sharing programme on the economics and technologies of district cooling, and the development of Arab programmes on efficient energy production and use.
The session is part of wider efforts to deepen Arab cooperation on electricity and energy and to strengthen joint Arab action in support of energy security, grid integration and the exchange of expertise among Arab states.
