Bahrain has strongly condemned the ongoing terrorist attacks by the terrorist Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, including the latest strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Manama, which described the militia as Iranian-backed, said hitting the same airport again only two days after it was first attacked amounted to a dangerous escalation.
According to a statement by the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the attacks breach international law, international humanitarian law and the UN Charter, endanger regional security and the safety of international civil aviation, passengers and crews, and gravely violate the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation and the resolutions of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The ministry voiced Bahrain's full and unconditional support for the sovereign and legitimate measures the Kingdom takes to protect its security, stability, citizens and residents, and for its inherent right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, in line with the GCC joint defence agreement. It said Saudi Arabia's security and stability are an integral part of the security of Bahrain and the other GCC states.
Bahrain urged the UN Security Council, ICAO and the wider international community to take firm and deterrent action to stop the repeated Houthi attacks on civilians and civilian sites, including airports, to hold the perpetrators and their supporters to account, and to ensure full implementation of Security Council Resolutions 2216 and 2817.
