The Yemeni government has asked the United Nations and the Security Council to condemn the attack on Aden International Airport carried out at dawn last Wednesday and to bring those responsible to account. In an official letter, it described the strike as a terrorist act by the Houthi militia, which it said is backed by the Iranian regime.

Yemen's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, addressed the letter to Secretary-General António Guterres and to Ambassador Aglaia Balta, Greece's Permanent Representative, who holds the Council presidency for October. It also called for the arms embargo on the terrorist Houthi militia to be enforced fully and effectively.

According to Yemen's official news agency Saba, the government argued that dealing with these threats means tackling their root causes, above all an armed militia's continued grip on parts of Yemeni territory and its possession of capabilities used against civilians, civilian facilities and international shipping.
