The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) announced investments of more than SAR550M in ICT infrastructure during the fifth LEAP 2026, held from August 31 to September 3, 2026. It also enabled the launch of the Kingdom's first fully carbon-neutral 5G-Advanced telecom tower site, launched four national digital sustainability initiatives with Ithra, and set up joint tracks with the Environment Fund on environmental sustainability.
To develop the sector and make better use of existing company infrastructure, CST granted the National Water Company (NWC) a Carrier Service Provider License and Technical Links Services (TLS) a Landing Stations and International Cable Services Permit. The licenses are expected to generate more than half a billion riyals (SAR500 million) in communications investment and help attract leading global technology players.
With the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and the Digital Government Authority (DGA), CST honored 23 partners of the "IoT Adoption" initiative. It also recognized 11 partners of the "Recycle Your Device" initiative, run with MCIT and the National Center for Waste Management (MWAN), which has recycled more than 400,000 devices, and, with Tuwaiq Academy, companies taking part in the BugBounty initiative.
CST launched a "Cloud Computing Maturity Index" to develop the Kingdom's cloud market, boost competitiveness, innovation and service quality, and recognized the top-rated providers.
Commission leaders spoke in sessions on space innovation, smart digital ecosystems, AI adoption and infrastructure readiness, and the structuring of technology markets, aiming to share knowledge and strengthen public-private collaboration, in line with CST's role in developing the communications, space and technology sectors.
