An integrated set of engineering solutions and modern technology run by the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque keeps conditions mild and comfortable for visitors, from the outer courtyards to the prayer halls.
Outside, misting fans cool the air and white Thassos marble floors absorb little heat, so worshippers can walk across the courtyards in comfort.
Inside the Grand Mosque, a central cooling system of about 155,000 refrigeration tons supplies air at between 22°C and 24°C. At the Prophet's Mosque, six cooling units with a combined 20,400 refrigeration tons keep air evenly distributed throughout the building.
