With the Kingdom's technical and vocational sectors growing quickly, young Saudis are turning a passion for fixing cars into careers and business opportunities, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

The Technical and Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) enrolled more than 12,000 trainees in automotive mechanics and electrical systems in the 1447 AH academic year and graduated over 2,000 specialists.

Helped by government stipends and funding for small and medium enterprises, technicians are building successful businesses from their practical skills, and specialised technicians earn between SAR10,000 and SAR15,000 a month.

Engineer Mohammed Abdullah and workshop owner Nasser Al-Nasser, both working in the industry, say servicing modern vehicles now requires advanced diagnostic equipment and electronic reprogramming as well as traditional mechanical work.

TVTC trainer Engineer Mansour Al-Thubaiti said keeping training programmes up to date, including partnerships focused on electric, hybrid and autonomous vehicles, is key to preparing Saudi talent for the mobility technologies of the future.
