Security Forces Hospital in Riyadh has carried out its first kidney transplant, a new step for the organ transplant program run by the Ministry of Interior's General Department of Medical Services.
The recipient, a 32-year-old man with kidney failure, was given a kidney by his sister, aged 35. The transplant went ahead only after detailed medical tests established that the two were a match.
A team drawn from several medical and surgical specialties performed the operation. Both siblings are reported stable and continue to receive the care they need.
According to the department, starting the kidney transplant program is part of its push to develop specialized medicine and raise the quality of care, and it confirms the hospital as a reference center able to handle complex procedures in line with international best practice.
